IntroductionOur facilities include a large concrete area for lameness investigations, modern stabling for in-patients, a car park large enough for lorries and trailers, paddocks for ridden assessments and lungeing as well as a range of diagnostic and surgical equipment in a modern hospital style clinic. We have nursing accomodation inside the clinic to give owners peace of mind that their horses are well cared for when they stay with us. Examination areasTwo examination / treatment rooms with rubberised safety flooring and impervious walls, stocks for safe examination of patients, large double doors for entry/exit and insulation and space heaters for optimum working environment. Diagnostic EquipmentRadiography. Two portable x-ray machines capable of imaging thoracic spine, head, stifles. Agfa digital x-ray processing system (new 2007) with high definition large screen monitor. Scintigraphy. First UK installation of brand new Scintron Gamma Camera Scintigraphy Unit (installed 2007). This allows diagnosis of difficult to isolate causes of lameness and poor performance often related to back or hind limb problems which cannot be diagnosed by other modalities. We also accept referrals from other practices for scintigraphy. Ultrasound. Two diagnostic ultrasound machines - portable unit for mare reproductive and mobile tendon and lameness work, and a larger clinic based unit for high quality tendon/limb work and abdominal/chest/heart scanning. Arthroscopy. Diagnostic surgical arthroscope ('keyhole' surgery for diagnostics and treatment of joint and tendon diseases) with video monitor and recording, which is also used for standing head/sinus examinations (sinuscopy). Endoscopy. Flexible fibreoptic endoscope for upper respiratory tract investigations. We also have access to a long video endoscope used in the investigation of stomach diseases e.g. gastric ulcers, and we run gastroscopy clinics with a specialist in gastrointestinal medicine. Laparoscopy. Dianostic abdominal video laparoscopy enabling us to view internal organs and perform some surgical procedures through 'keyhole' incisions. Surgical FacilitiesPadded operating theatre, purpose built hydraulic operating theatre with overhead hoist, gaseous anaesthesia, blood pressure monitoring (direct and electronic) with assisted recovery system to minimise post-operative complications and fluid therapy during anaesthesia. EmergencyWe provide 24 hour
emergency cover for all our clients via a rapid response pager service. All emergency calls are answered by a real person, not a recorded message and our policy is to reply to all emergency calls within 10 minutes.
